Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh calls on Governor
Guwahati, September 24: Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh today called on Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan and apprised him of several projects taken up by the centre for the improvement of the railway transport of the North eastern region. She informed the Governor on the implementation of textile related schemes in the state also.
Prof. Mukhi during the meeting said that since railways are always considered as the harbinger of economy, the sector has immense possibility and contribution to the economic development of Assam. He, therefore, asked the Union Minister for expeditious completion of the ongoing projects implemented by the Railways in the state. He also stressed on the completion of electrification and railway network expansion project being undertaken in North East Frontier Railway region. The Union Minister also informed the Governor that from New Delhi to Guwahati the entire stretch of the railway track has been electrified. She also said that the Railway Ministry is also taking several other projects for qualitative development of the railways including cleanliness and punctuality in the NFR region. As for network expansion, more projects pertaining to laying of new line from Dimapur to Kohima has already been taken up, the minister informed.
On the textile front, the Governor besides seeking the Textile Ministry’s special attention to Assam also requested Union Minister Jardosh to take schemes for the empowerment of women weavers of the state. He also sought her help in popularizing the traditional design of the State’s textile outside.
