World No- Tobacco Day 31st May

Rongili Barta- Department of History, Pragjyotish College and Sadichsa (NGO) jointly observed world No-Tobacco Day, to creat awareness among students of our college about the effects of tobacco uses and how is harm health and spending of money.

The program is inaugurated with the lighting of Lamps by the principal of pragjyotish college, Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta, Pronoy Bordoloi Senior journalist and sportsperson,Mirazul Islam (Mirazz). Centre Manager, Serenity Foundation, Guwahati , Merck Bordoloi, NRI, Monalisha Baruah, President Sadichsa(NGO) and Badan Ch. Mahanta, HOD History Pragjyotish College and other faculty members.

Mayuree Dutta, Secretary of Sadichsa anchored the program. Dr Nandini Sarma felicitated the guests.Bishwajyoti Dev  Mahanta delivered the welcome speech. Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta in his speech described how the bad habbits of taking or chearing of tobacco grows among the school and college students. India is No.2 in the vist of the countries taking or addicted to tobacco.

Pronoy Bordoloi in his speech urged to students not to take any kind of tobacco alchohol etc. He cited the tragic incident of car accident in jalukbari where seven students of Assam Engineering College lost their lives due to consumption of alchohol that led to the accident.

Morek Bordoloi exploined the need of discipline in life. He is an entrepreneur from Assan Settled in U.S.A. He advised the students to track their every day life.

Mirazul Islam in his thrilling speech described his personal life, how taking a ‘bidi’ gradually led him to addiction of alchohol and drugs, his family life and his addiction ruined his financial condition.

Dr. Gargee Sharmah offered vote of thanks to all present in the program. Faculties of different departments and a good number of students attended the program H.S. 2nd yr students made post cards with the theme ‘NO TOBACCO’. The program was observed  as a part of Mou signed between Dept. of History, Pragjyotish College and Sadichsa (NGO) with the objective of social responsibility.
