Thalassemia screening camps for children

Rongili Barta- Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) under the aegis of Health & FW Department, Govt of Assam is organizing Thalassemia Screening Camps for children below 14 years of age in seven medical colleges and hospitals across Assam on November 15, 2022 from 9 am onwards. The thalassemia screening camps will be centrally inaugurated at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital by Hon’ble Minister for Health &FW, Assam, Shri Keshav Mahanta at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital at 10 am. It may be mentioned that Thalassemia Support Scheme for children below 14 years of age was launched on 1 st October during National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. To bring more patients under the ambit of this scheme, thalassemia screening camps are being organized at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Assam Medical College and Hospital, Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Fakhruddin Ali Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta and Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. If a child below 14 years of age or the relatives of children with thalassemia are having symptoms like fatigue, weakness, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, bone pain, pale or yellowish skin, facial bone deformities, slow growth, abdominal swelling, dark urine etc, the child may be brought for screening at the aforesaid screening camps in medical colleges and hospitals across Assam.
