Suspicious death of a second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Hospital, truth must come out through departmental investigation
ABVP will always stand by the students, colleagues, and family members of the medical college: ABVP
Rongili Barta- The death of a second-year postgraduate student and a duty-bound lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Friday morning is initially suspected to be unnatural. The family members of the deceased and the hospital’s colleague-doctors have alleged rape and murder. The body of the student from the Chest Medicine department was recovered in a semi-naked and suspicious state. According to the hospital’s doctors, there are injury marks on the body of the deceased. Therefore, it can be said that the possibility of suicide is ruled out.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demands:
1. Immediate arrangement for post-mortem and ensuring post-mortem at a neutral central government institution like ESI or AIIMS.
2. Videography of the post-mortem should be done with the permission of the family of the deceased and in the interest of transparency in the investigation.
3. The role of the hospital authorities in the incident should also be investigated.
Anirudha Sarkar, State Secretary of ABVP West Bengal, said, “The death of a student at RG Kar Medical College is very sad and painful. The authorities should immediately answer why such an incident happened in the medical college and release the CCTV footage. The hospital authorities may influence the post-mortem with the help of the state government. Meanwhile, the hospital side is trying to pass it off as a suicide, whereas physical assault marks are clear. If anyone is involved in the incident, appropriate punishment should be arranged through a high-level investigation by the Health Department and Police Administration.”
