Renowned Literary Figure Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika’s Birthday Celebrated as ‘Dakshiri Day’
M. Hasim Ali, Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta-  On January 23, the birthday of the eminent literary figure, scholar, and poet Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika was celebrated as ‘Dakshiri Day’ by her well-wishers. To mark the occasion, an online lecture event titled ‘Gramophone and Assamese Songs: The Centenary of Recording (1924–2024)’ was held at 7:30 PM. Renowned singer, music teacher, and gramophone record collector Umananda Duwara participated as the keynote speaker.In his speech, Umananda Duwara discussed the recording of most old Assamese songs since 1924, playing examples of these songs and providing information about the singers and lyricists. Additionally, he set music to Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika’s composition ‘Manore Moyuri Nache’ and performed it himself.In her speech, Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika expressed that the love and affection from her students and well-wishers provide her with strength and keep her life vibrant. Ms Karabi Deka regards her students as her own children. Admirers of Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika from various parts of Assam participated in the online event. Some of her well-wishers gathered at her residence to extend their greetings and participate in the celebrations. The lecture was well-researched and engaging, benefiting the audience, as noted by attendees. Distinguished individuals such as former Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Dr. Kandarpa  Kumar Deka, Jharna Saikia, Cheniram Bora, Deepa Goswami, Naren Goswami, Dr. Krishna Prasad Dutta, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Baruah, and members of “Dakshiri” actively participated in the event.
