Raj Bhavan Assam celebrated state day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- To strengthen the feeling of national unity, Raj Bhavan Assam under the leadership of Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, celebrated the statehood day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura at GMCH auditorium on Sunday. It may be noted that as a part of the Central Government’s decision to celebrate the statehood days of different states in the Raj Bhavans across the country, Raj Bhavan Assam celebrated the state day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura. Minister for Environment and Forest Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the programme as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed happiness for the initiatives of celebrating the state day of one state by other states across the country. He said that the Prime Minister regarded North East as Ashtalaxmi and always termed the region as the new engine of economic growth. He said that unless North East is developed India will not develop, therefore, the Government under the leadership of the Prime Minister has given unprecedented fillip for the development of North East. Shri Patowary also said that Assam is regarded as the gateway to North East and other South East Asian countries. Therefore, development of the state as well as the region holds paramount importance. Chief Secretary, Government of Assam Paban Kumar Borthakur attended the programme as the guest of honour and paid rich tributes to the leaders of the states whose contribution is largely responsible for the development of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura. He said that the celebration of the state days gives an essence of unity among the people. He said that the state days are appropriate occasions to celebrate the friendship, unity and mutual bonhomie among the states. He also said that everyone has to contribute to make India a developed nation. Stating a few lines from Mahapurush Madhavdev who said that it is great to be born as a human being and greater to be born in Bharat, Shri Borthakur said that being Indians everybody should contribute to help the country in its bid to become a developed country by 2047. The Chief Secretary said that North East India comprises of eight jewels. North East is an important part of India which is known for its tourism. The states are making important contributions to India’s development. He said that in 1972, the three states became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region (Reorganisation) Act,1971. The Chief Secretary extended his greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura and said that the states have been progressing on several counts and expedited the rate of development of the country. The Governors and Chief Ministers of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura send their goodwill messages on the occasion. Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram presented the welcome address. Cultural programmes from the states were also performed. The programme was also attended by government officials and members of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura community.
