Orientation programme held for Irrigation Department Engineers
Dispur, August 18: An orientation programme for the newly promoted/transferred Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers of Irrigation Department was held today at Srimanta Shankardeva International Auditorium, Panjabari, Guwahati. The programme organised by Department of Irrigation was attended by Ashok Singhal, Minister of Irrigation, Housing and Urban Affairs.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister emphasised how the department of Irrigation can be a major contributor to the state economy by catering the needs of agriculture sector. He said that an agricultural boom is possible with three fold production when provided with proper irrigation, facilities to the farming community of the state. Moreover, the minister even gave the example of ‘lift irrigation’ projects carried out by Telengana Government where the water is transported using external energy instead of its natural flow to reach the untapped areas. He asked the engineers of the department to emulate such successful projects of other states for the development of irrigation scenario in Assam.
The meeting was also attended by Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary to the Department of Irrigation, Transport and Soil Conservation, Rakesh Kumar, Commissioner-Secretary, Irrigation, Fishery & MD APDCL, Nivedita Laskar, Joint Secretary Irrigation and Brajen Malakar, Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department.
