Governor visits Nagaon district, takes stock of government schemes

Stresses on time bound implementation of government schemes

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in his maiden visit to Nagaon today chaired a meeting with the district administration in presence of Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah,SP Navaneet Mahanta, DDC Satyajit Chetia, CEO Zilla Parishad  Ananta Kumar Gogoi, all ADCs and Heads of the Departments and took stock of the implementation of several flagship schemes of the Central and State governments.

Governor Kataria took a detailed review of all the schemes such as JJM, PMAY-G, Amrit Sarovar, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Education, Health, Agriculture amongst others. Taking note of the education department, the Governor made special emphasis on maintaining teacher student ratio, and addressing the dropouts rates in different schools especially the model schools functioning in the tea garden area. He also took stock of the impact of the model schools being constructed in the tea garden areas on the students.

The Governor also took stock of the plantation drive undertaken in the district. He said that more saplings should be planted in the educational institutions and students should be involved in the work. The governor also inquired about the progress of the Amrit Sarovar projects being implemented in the district. He took details of the programme from the District Commissioner, seeking comprehensive details on how these projects have been positively transforming the lives of the people residing in the vicinity.

The Governor during his meeting, asked the concerned officials to maintain their lose vigilance on curbing child marriage and ensuring the success of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Furthermore, the Governor inquired about the progress of the TB Mukt Abhiyaan, seeking an update on the status of the campaign aimed at eliminating tuberculosis from the state. The Governor also talked to MLA Nagaon Rupak Sharma, MLA of Barhampur Jitu Goswami, and other elected representatives of civic bodies. The Governor also held meeting with the security agencies and took stock of the law and order of the district. He also met the beneficiaries of different flagship schemes of the district and interacted with them.
