Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi pays floral tributes to Gandhiji:Makes an appeal to make Swachh Bharat Mission II (Urban) a grand sucesss
Guwahati, October 2: On the occasion of 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi paid rich floral tributes to the father of the nation at Gandhi Maidan in Udalguri today and appealed to all to emulate Gandhiji’s philosophy, thoughts and ideals.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mukhi said that Gandhiji is not a personality. He is an institution who will keep inspiring the generations to follow Gandhian philosophy to build the nation on a high pedestal.
Though he led the freedom movement of India from the front to wage a war against foreign rule, his war was based on non-violence. He pioneered and practiced the principle of Satyagraha. To drive his point home, the Governor said that nothing can be achieved through violence as he advocated for building and developing friendly bonds among individuals, institutions and countries. Realizing the power of non-violence for forging friendly ties, even the General Assembly of United Nations decided to observe the 2nd October every year as the International Day of Non-Violence. Prof. Mukhi said that the messages of Gandhiji will always remain significant. He also said that it will be a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birthday if the countrymen take the pledge to follow his teachings to make the nation of his dream. He also called upon everybody to contribute whole heartedly to make Phase II of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) which has been launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi a grand success..
Chief Executive Member BTC Pramod Boro, Deputy CEM, BTC Govinda Basumutary, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri Dr.Uday Praveen also spoke on the occasion. The function was participated by the officials of Udalguri district administration and members of BTC and people from cross section of the society.
