Governor Flags off Mega Cyclothon of Girls NCC Cadets

Hails NCC’s role of national development

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria flagged off a mega  Cyclothon of National Cadet Corps at Raj Bhawan, today. The cyclothon starting from Guwahati will culminate in New Delhi, in an inspiring demonstration of Unity And Fitness by the girls of NCC cadets.  Governor Shri Kataria interacted with the contingent of the mega Cyclothon, motivated and congratulated the team members for having been selected for this event. During interaction he said that National Cadet Corps stands as a beacon of discipline, leadership, and patriotism. “In our great nation, the role of women has always been paramount. The Naari Shakti initiative is a beacon of hope and progress, illustrating the incredible potential and capabilities of women in every sphere of life,” the Governor added. Shri Kataria also said that NCC has a very important role to play to use youth power for national development. NCC Trainings makes them disciplined, grounded and also develops the love for the nation. He also wished them all luck to complete the expedition. It may be mentioned that the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organization of the World is celebrating 75 years of its raising in the year 2023. Mega Cyclothon is a national level cycling expedition. Based on the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the event aims to showcase Nari Shakti. A team of 15 cyclists, comprising 14 Girl Cadets from NCC UP Directorate led by Marathoner Col Anjan Sengupta is undertaking the expedition. The cyclists will commence their mammoth journey on 24th Dec 2023 and shall cross four Indian states namely Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh before culminating at New Delhi. The cyclists shall be covering the distance of 2107kms in a span of 23 riding days at an average of almost 90 to 100 kms per day. The programme was attended by  Maj Gen Gagandeep, ADG, North Eastern Directorate of NCC and Brig Rajendra Kumar DDG ADG of NCC UP Directorate, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SSMeenakshi Sundaram and several NCC and Raj Bhavan officials to extend their encouragement and support to the cadets.
