Governor attends 34th District Conference “Confero” of Rotary International District 3240

Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the 34th District Conference “Confero” of Rotary International District 3240 at a resort in Sonapur. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kataria said that the people associated with “Rotary International” known for rendering humanitarian service across the world. The organization is championing  the cause of “Service above Self” and advocating the doctrine that “one profits most who serves best” i.e. he who serves best is the most profitable. He observed that these are important principles for the welfare of the entire human race. Everyone lives for themselves, but the one who lives for charity, lives the true life. At the programme, Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kanan and Akshar Foundation were honored with the Rotary Service Excellence Award. The Governor congratulated them for their remarkable contribution to human service. The Governor also said that education, philanthropy and generosity are the virtues of Indian culture, the organizations like Rotary is promoting these values in the society.  Hailing the Rotary International for its humanitarian endeavour, the Governor shared  instances from Indian  history and mythology which are full of stories of charity. He shared how Maharishi Dadhichi gave his bones to Indra for creating Vajra from them and killed Vrita asura and saved the Gods. Maharaj Harishchandra was a great philanthropist. Chandrashekhar, Bhagat Singh, Rani Lakshmibai and many other freedom fighters gave their martyrdom to achieve independence. Shri Kataria said that charity makes a person selfless. Only the feeling of charity makes life great. Great personalities like Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda considered philanthropy as the most important part of life. By doing philanthropy one  can build a healthy and happy society. The Governor also appreciated Rotary International for its contribution towards  eradicating polio from the world map.
