Campus bird count at Pragjyotish College
GUWAHAT, Feb: The Department of Zoology, Pragjyotish College organised ‘Campus Bird Count 1.0’ event today on its campus from 6 am, a press release stated.
This is part of a pan-global event that is celebrated in educa tional institutions and is a sub-event of the global Great Back yard Bird Count (GBBC). The event was led by seven eminent wildlife enthusiasts – Dr Nilutpal Mahanta, Nazrul Islam, Ujjal Baruah, Himadri Bhuyan, Keshob Jyoti Borah and Atanu Kr Chowdhury, former Vice-Principal of the college. Around 50 students and faculty of the Zoology Department took part in the event. More than 129 individuals of 37 species were re corded during the campus trail which was followed by an inter active session between the students and the resource persons.
Birds that were spotted during the event included rock pi geon, spotted dove, oriental magpie robin, Asian koel, white breasted waterhen, little cormorant, Indian pond heron, black kite, Asian barred owlet, white-throated kingfisher, copper smith barbet and others.
