Assam Governor visits Nilamoni Phukan
Guwahati, December : Assam Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited the acclaimed Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan at his residence today who has recently won the 56th Jnanpith Award.
The Governor congratulated the eminent poet on winning the Jnanpith Award, the highest literary award for his contribution to Assamese literature. He also wished him good health and hoped that he would continue working towards enrichment of the Assamese literature. He said that his achievements would certainly inspire the budding writers to work with more zeal and secure accolades for the state.
The Governor talked to the litterateur for some time. It may be mentioned that Nilamoni Phukan is the third recipient of the Jnanpith Award from Assam after Birendranath Bhattacharya and Mamoni Raisom Goswami.
The Governor felicitated the litterateur with a gamocha, seleng sador, xarai and a replica of Kamakhya temple.
