Guwahati, Rongili Barta – Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended a Tea Workers’ Conclave, organized by the Aadhunik India Foundation, at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium in the city today. In his address, Governor Kataria acknowledging the role of the tea workers for the growth of tea industry in Assam, said that the State government is taking a series of steps for the welfare of the tea workers. He, however, said that despite celebrating two centuries of tea cultivation in this region, numerous challenges affected this industry. The Governor said that though the government is working very sincerely to improve the socio-economic and academic conditions of the workers and their wards associated with the tea industry, some global challenges have somewhat brought sluggishness in the growth of the sector. The Governor said that he would personally convey the issues affecting the tea industry in Assam to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He firmly believes that the Prime Minister’s able leadership combined with the proactive measures undertaken by the State Government, would be helpful in bringing a brighter future to the industry and the community. The Governor highlighted the significant efforts made by the Government of Assam in prioritizing the well-being and development of tea workers. The establishment of model schools across the state represents a crucial and commendable initiative aimed at advancing the lives of those in the tea garden areas. He also opined that the individuals belonging to the tea community who have secured good education and quality of life despite facing numerous challenges, should actively contribute to the betterment of their community members as a collective effort. Governor Kataria emphasized the importance of securing land ownership for the tea garden workers. He stressed that the land ownership is not merely a symbolic gesture but a gateway to accessing various government facilities. He also expressed his desire that during his district visits across the state, he would also visit tea garden areas. This would help him to gain firsthand insights into the challenges faced by the community at the grassroots level which would also ensure that their voices are heard. Minister of Welfare of Tea Tribes, Sanjoy Kishan, MP Karimganj, Kripanath Mallah, Chairman Aadhunik India Foundation Dinesh Kr Chouhan, and a host of other dignitaries were present in the conclave.
