Assam Governor attends Assam Police Day
Hails the role of Assam Police to improve law and order in the changing dynamics of crime
Guwahati, October 1: “Assam Police, is a very dedicated and professional police force as it has proved time and again that it is worthy to secure the lives and properties of our people and at the same time deal with the changing dynamics of crimes”, said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at the 71st Assam Police Day at 4th APBN in Kahilipara, Guwahati today.
While attending the celebrations of the Assam Police Day, Prof. Mukhi said that he always believed that being in police service amounts to carrying a lot of responsibilities and trust of common citizens. He also said that people always see the police personnel as someone who is dedicated enough to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice to the last person at the bottom of the pyramid. He further asked the police administration to keep honing their skills with utmost importance on basic policing to secure the lives and properties of all with special attention to less privileged.
The Governor also said that police represent and symbolize the quality of a state and therefore urged upon them to be good to the people and help them in every circumstances especially while they are in distress. He said that everything must be done to make basic policing better which is the hallmark of a sensitive and professional police force.
Addressing the men in uniform the Governor further said, “Being in the police force has always bestowed with the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of not just a few people but thousands and lakhs. This is a big responsibility and I am happy that you are always up to it. Always contribute to build a society where citizens fear and respect the law rather than fear the law enforcer.”
Considering the changing dynamics of the commission of crimes, Prof. Mukhi also expressed his happiness and said that the government has established a Cyber Forensic Lab-cum Training Centre at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarter, Guwahati besides taking steps to set up forensic labs across the state to help and expedite the police department in criminal investigations. The Cyber Forensic lab-cum-Training Centre which is equipped with cyber forensic tools and other modern tools will help in cybercrime investigation, the Governor added. In view of the rising trend of sophisticated digital crimes, the Governor emphasized on constant technological upgradation of the infrastructure to help the police forces to deal with crimes and taking adequate steps to thwart subversive activities carried out taking the help of technology.
Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta while speaking on the occasion said that Assam police is contemplating to introduce double shifting for their working personnel. As it would help the force to work more systematically and vigorously. Moreover, advanced training encompassing all technological skills are being provided to the Assam Police personnel to keep track with the changing times. He also informed that the Assam police is so far successful in handling the insurgency and eliminating it from its roots in the state. Still, the department is working hard to give citizens adequate service and security to live freely in the society.
Special DGP G.P. Singh, Special DGP, TAP, Dr. L.R.Bishnoi, Commandant 4th Assam Police Battalion Indrani Baruah along with a host of senior officers of Assam Police Force and other dignitaries were present in the function.
