Assam Government progresses further on response and recovery to deal with the current situation of flood and landslides
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: In view of the current flood and landslide situation in the State, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has further expedited the response and recovery services by engaging the concerned stakeholders and deployment of additional resources and support system to the severely affected districts. Some of the major initiatives undertaken in the last 24hrs are:
1. A total of 269 stranded people have been rescued from Dima Hasao district in last 2 days with the help of Indian Air Force (IAF) and they have been airdropped in Silchar.
2. Assam Government has allotted additional Rs. 2 crores each to Cachar and Dima Hasao district for releasing Gratuitous Relief to the affected people.
3. 24 MT food items have been transported to Dima Hasao district with the help of IAF in last 2 days.
4. UNICEF has supported by deploying 7 teams of technical specialists and consultants to support DDMAs of Cachar, Hojai, Darrang, Biswanath, Nagaon, Morigaon and Dima Hasao to monitor flood relief camps in accordance with the relief camp management SOP, assess ground situation & needs and support relevant stakeholders in strengthening the response activities.
5. ASDMA is also contemplating to augment disaster response forces from nearby States to further strengthen response if the situation becomes more critical.
6. Approximately 800 AAPDA Mitra volunteers and 88 Circle Level Quick Response Team (CQRT) volunteers across the State have been trained in Search & Rescue (SAR) techniques and their services are being utilized by local authorities for flood response in different flood and landslide affected districts of Assam.
7. A team of specialists from ISRO is already doing rapid damage assessment in Dima Hasao using drones and satellite data to inform the post disaster need assessment later. 8. Steps for recuperating the broken communication systems are being taken to establish contact with remote areas in Dima Hasao.
As per the cumulative Flood Report till date, the major points are:
A. A total of 8,12,619 populations of 2,585 villages in 29 districts in flood including 5 districts affected by landslides.
B. A total of 81,920.41 hectares crop areas have been affected in flood.
C. Total 10 human lives (5 in Flood & 5 in Landslide) have been lost in the first phase of flood in the State.
D. A total of 21,884 stranded persons have been evacuated with the help of SDRF, NDRF and volunteers.
E. 343 relief camps and 411 relief distribution centres have been opened in all affected areas. F. A total of 86,772 inmates are staying in these relief camps.
G. Situation emerging due to incessant rains is under close watch.
