ASDMA convened Pre-Event for 3rd Session of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) 2023

Guwahati,Rongili Barta-  The Pre-Event for 3rd Session of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) 2023 was organised today by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in association with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati. The two days event is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, state agencies like Central Water Commission (CWC) and community based agencies like Rural Volunteer’s Centre, Ramkrishna Mission and Sphere India. The event was graced by Shri Rajiv Kumar Bora, IAS (Retd.), Former Chairman, Assam Public Service Commission as Chief Guest and Shri Syedain Abbasi, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Water Resources Department as Guest of Honor. The two days Pre-Event session was based on the theme “Flood Preparedness and Response”. The major discussions during the event centred around Flood preparedness demonstrating progressive actions from state, UN agencies, Private sector, Knowledge institutions and civil society organisation. ASDMA demonstrated the Flood Reporting Information Management System (FRIMS) and Flood Preparedness Score Card with the technical support of UNICEF, Assam to improve flood governance in Assam. ASDMA and UNICEF representatives also highlighted the importance of augmenting shock responsive social protection interventions for improving community-based Disaster Risk Reduction. Eminent scientists and experts from NESAC and IMD demonstrated the technological progress in Flood Early Warning and Flood Forecasting system. Agencies like AIDMI, RVC, SATRA, CARITAS, Tomorrow.io emphasised on the participatory DRR, Relief Camp Management, Emergency Shelters and community based technological solutions for effective disaster preparedness and response. The District Disaster Management Authorities from Cachar and Majuli demonstrated models of good disaster risk governance implemented at the district level with special focus on flood shelters and model relief camps. Other dignitaries present at the event were Shri. Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, Shri Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary, Mission Director (Jal Jeevan Mission) Ministry of Jal Shakti , Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, CFO, UNICEF, Assam, Prof. Santosh Kumar, NIDM, Govt. of India and Shri Gaurav Upadhyay, IPS, PO, AIRBMP, ASDMA.
