Guwahati; Rongili Barta: UTI Mid Cap Fund reported assets under management (AUM) of over Rs. 11,919 crore as of September 30, 2026, with approximately 70% of its portfolio invested in mid-cap companies and 19% in small-cap companies. The remaining allocation was in large-cap companies. In line with its investment mandate, the fund seeks to maintain an allocation of 85–90% to mid-cap and small-cap companies at all times. Its portfolio comprises around 79 stocks across various sectors and industries.
UTI Mid Cap Fund is an open-ended equity scheme that invests predominantly in mid-cap companies. As defined by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the 101st to 250th companies by full market capitalisation are classified as mid-cap stocks. A mid-cap fund is required to invest a minimum of 65% of its corpus in equity and equity-related instruments of mid-cap companies.
Mid-cap companies occupy a stage in the business life cycle where they have generally navigated the initial challenges faced by smaller businesses, including raising capital and managing early growth. They may have the potential to sustain market leadership and leverage significant competitive advantages while retaining the capacity for faster growth. This positions mid-cap companies between fast-growing small businesses and well-established large companies.
The fund’s investment strategy focuses on companies with scalable business models and a long growth runway. It also considers established businesses experiencing a temporary phase of weakness or undergoing transformation. Following a bottom-up stock selection approach, the fund seeks businesses with healthy financials and the potential to sustain margins over time.
As of September 30, 2026, the scheme’s top holdings included Coforge Ltd., AU Small Finance Bank Ltd., Blue Star Limited, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd., Ajanta Pharma Ltd., APL Apollo Tubes Ltd., Federal Bank Ltd., Phoenix Mills Ltd., Info Edge (India) Ltd. and Shriram Finance Ltd. Together, these holdings accounted for approximately 23% of the portfolio.
Launched on April 7, 2004, UTI Mid Cap Fund follows a diversified investment approach aimed at balancing risk and reward. The fund adopts a patient approach towards its portfolio companies and seeks to maintain an appropriate mix of businesses with strong Return on Capital Employed (RoCE) and cash flow profiles. This approach is intended to help mitigate sharp divergences in returns and portfolio volatility.
UTI’s experience in research and fund management, supported by its coverage of a broad cross-section of companies in the mid-cap and small-cap universe, is expected to assist the fund in identifying quality stocks while avoiding weaker businesses.
Mid-cap funds offer investors an opportunity to participate in the growth potential of medium-sized businesses. However, investors should remain mindful of the inherent risks, as both the risk and reward potential of mid-cap funds are relatively higher than those of well-diversified growth funds.
UTI Mid Cap Fund is suitable for investors seeking exposure to a portfolio predominantly invested in mid-cap companies and looking to supplement their core equity portfolio with its underlying growth potential.
