Governor honours 101 year old Govinda Dev Goswami for lifelong contribution to education and society
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today honoured 101 year old Govinda Dev Goswami a teacher and Sanskrit scholar at his residence in Palara, Kamrup, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to education, social service and the welfare of society.

The Governor conferred upon Shri Goswami the ‘ Governor Assam Varishtha Nagrik Samman’ and felicitated him with a traditional gamosa, seleng sador, shawl, dhoti, umbrella and a basket of fruits. He also presented him a cheque of Rs. 51,000 as a mark of respect and appreciation for his enduring contribution.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya said that the life and experiences of senior citizens are an invaluable source of wisdom and inspiration for younger generations. He said that Shri Goswami’s lifelong commitment to education and society reflects the spirit of dedication and selfless service.
“Honouring our senior citizens is a bow of respect to the values, experiences and struggles of a generation that has contributed to building our society and our nation. We have much to learn from their lives and experiences. I pray for the good health and long life of Shri Govinda Dev Goswami,” the Governor said.

The Governor also observed that senior citizens deserve not only respect and recognition but continued care, dignity and meaningful participation in society. He emphasised the importance of strengthening inter-generational bonds and ensuring that the wisdom and experiences of the elderly are valued by society.

Later in the day, as part of the observance of the International Day of Older Persons, Governor Shri Acharya visited a geriatric ward at a health camp organised near Haradutta Biradutta Bhavan. He interacted with elderly persons receiving care at the camp and presented them fruit packets. The Governor also enquired about their well-being and interacted with healthcare personnel regarding the facilities and services being provided to senior citizens.

The Governor said that society’s commitment to its elderly population must be reflected through compassion, dignity, accessible healthcare and continued social support.
