Governor calls for mass participation in Har Ghar Tiranga campaign
Let the Tricolour rise in every home and every heart: Governor
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended a public meeting and cultural programme organised in connection with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign at the Shri Shri Damodardeva International Auditorium here today.
It may be noted that Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is a nationwide initiative encouraging citizens to hoist or display the Indian National Flag at their homes. The 2026 edition runs from August 9 to August 17, 2026, and is specially dedicated to marking the 150th anniversary of the national song, Vande Mataram.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Assam and said that the Har Ghar Tiranga is a campaign to renew the collective will of the countrymen to contribute towards building a Viksit Bharat. He said that the campaign has given every citizen an opportunity to express love, respect and a sense of duty towards the nation.
The Governor said that the Tricolour is the pride, honour and glory of every Indian and symbolises the nation’s sovereignty, dignity and self-respect. Responding to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he appealed to the people of Assam to hoist the National Flag at their homes and strengthen the collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.
Recalling the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters, Shri Acharya said that the dignity of the Tricolour rests upon their courage and supreme sacrifices. He also highlighted the significance of commemorating 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ this year. He said that the song played an important role in awakening patriotism during the freedom struggle and it continued to inspire the nation towards unity, integrity and progress.
Referring to this year’s call of “Har Ghar Tiranga, Ghar-Ghar Tiranga and Har Man Tiranga”, the Governor said that the spirit of the Tricolour should extend beyond homes and find expression in the thoughts, actions and resolve of every citizen.
Highlighting Assam’s glorious tradition of patriotism and sacrifice, Shri Acharya recalled the contributions of Veer Lachit Barphukan, Veerangana Kanaklata Barua, Mukunda Kakoti and countless other heroes who devoted their lives to the service of the nation. He said that building a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Assam is a collective responsibility, requiring the participation of people from all walks of life.
The Governor however, on the occasion expressed his condolences to the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in the recent flood of Assam and expressed his appreciation to the resilient character of the people who faced the flood with courage and fortitude. Also expressing his gratitude for the support extended by people from across the country during the recent floods, Shri Acharya said that assistance in the form of relief materials, financial support and humanitarian aid reflected the spirit of national solidarity. He also acknowledged the contribution of the Central and State Governments, institutions, voluntary organisations and citizens involved in relief and rescue operations. On behalf of the people of Assam, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who stood by the State during the difficult period.
The Governor said, “Let the Tricolour rise in every home and every heart. Such solidarity reminds us that under the Tricolour, the entire nation stands united. Our languages, traditions and sects may be different, but our nation is one and our identity is one and that is Indian.”
Calling upon the youth to imbibe the values represented by the Tricolour, Shri Acharya said that the National Flag teaches courage, discipline, unity and a strong sense of duty. He said that whenever a student uses knowledge for the welfare of society, a farmer contributes to the nation’s food security, a scientist develops new technologies, a soldier protects the country or a citizen performs his or her duties sincerely, the Tricolour truly rises higher.
The Governor appealed to all residents of Assam to participate enthusiastically in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and hoist the National Flag with full respect at their homes, establishments and institutions. He also urged people to share their Tiranga Yatra and the spirit of national pride through social media and encourage wider participation in the campaign.
The programme was attended by Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Mrigen Sarania, Vice-Chairman Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, Pranjal Saikia, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Dr. P.S. Mahanta, District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, Swapnil Paul, Director, Department of Cultural Affairs Rahul Chandra Das along with a host of other dignitaries.
