Governor interacts with Chancellor’s Nominees to State Universities
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor and Chancellor of the State Universities, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, today held a virtual interaction with the Chancellor’s Nominees to the various statutory authorities and bodies of Gauhati University, Majuli University of Culture, Majuli and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat from Lok Bhavan.
During the meeting the Governor said that the appointment of the Chancellor’s nominees reflect their competence, integrity and impartiality, and urged them to play a pivotal role in strengthening transparency, accountability, academic excellence and good governance in the universities. Stating that universities are centres of learning, research, innovation and character building, the Governor called upon the nominees to actively participate in the meetings of the university authorities and contribute constructively to policy formulation and institutional decision-making. He appealed to them to ensure that all decisions are guided by the provisions of the respective University Acts, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations, besides adhering to the guidelines of the Government of Assam, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other competent authorities.
Shri Acharya advised the nominees to study agenda papers thoroughly before every meeting to understand procedural or administrative shortcomings if any at an early stage and offer objective, fact-based suggestions in the larger interest of the institutions. He also stressed the importance of monitoring the implementation of decisions taken by the university authorities and ensuring timely execution of pending matters.
The Governor further invited the nominees to share suggestions on academic, administrative, financial and governance-related issues whenever necessary, assuring that appropriate recommendations would be communicated to the concerned universities in his capacity as Chancellor.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Advisor, Governor’s Secretariat, Prof. Harbansh Dixit, OSD to the Governor Prof. Bechan Lal, Joint Secretary, Governor’s Secretariat Arindom Barua along with other functionaries.
