Lok Bhavan, Assam celebrates Rajasthan Day

Guwahati, April 5: Lok Bhavan, Assam under the guidance of Governor Sri Lakshman Prasad Acharya celebrated the State foundation Day of Rajasthan in a befitting manner at a function held at Pragjyotish ITA Cultural Centre.

Organized under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative of Government of India, the Governor stated that the programme aimed at strengthening the spirit of Unity in Diversity of our nation thereby promoting cultural integration across the States and Union territories.

Paying rich tribute to Rajasthan’s illustrious legacy, the Governor noted that the State was formed through the integration of princely states under the leadership of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel. He highlighted the values of courage, sacrifice and devotion embodied by legendary figures like Maharana Pratap, Maharana Sanga, Maharaja Surajmal,Meerabai and Panna Dhai which continue to inspire generation.

The Governor underscored Rajasthan’s vibrant cultural and architectural heritage, citing iconic landmarks such as Hawa Mahal, the majestic forts of Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer as enduring symbols of India’s rich civilizational legacy and global tourism appeal.

Emphasizing the deep-rooted cultural ties between Assam and Rajasthan, the Governor observed that despite geographical distances both States are united by a shared cultural ethos. The Governor also made a special mention of eminent Assamese litterateur, composer and freedom fighter Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla whose ancestral roots trace back to Rajasthan, reflecting the deep historical and cultural linkage between the two States. He observed that Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla’s life and works symbolize the spirit of cultural integration and national unity, serving as a shining example of the ideals embodied in the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative.

The Governor lauded the significant contribution of the Rajasthani community in Assam towards the State’s socio-economic progress and cultural enrichment. Calling for collective action, he urged upon all the stakeholders to actively contribute to the social, educational, cultural and economic advancement of the State in line with the vision of a strong, prosperous and self-reliant India.

Earlier the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, SS Meenakshi Sundaram delivered the welcome address. President Rajasthan Foundation Kailash Kabra, also spoke on this occasion. A vibrant cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

First lady of Assam Smt. Kumud Devi, Principal secretary, Govt. of Assam, Mukesh Chandra Sahu, ADGP (V&AC), Surendra Kumar, Film Maker & Social Worker, Shankar Lal Goenka, Trustee Kanoi College, Dibrugarh, Jyoti Prasad Kanoi and a host of dignitaries were also present during the occasion.
