Governor attends “Nation First” event at Narangi Military Station
Calls upon youth to focus not only on career but also on character building, discipline, and service to society
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: As part of the week-long service oriented campaign launched by Lok Bhawan, Assam, Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, today attended an event named “Nation First” held at the 51 Sub Area, Narangi Military Station, Guwahati. On the occasion, the Governor felicitated some civilians and military personnel in recognition of their exemplary service and outstanding contribution to the nation.

Addressing the dignitaries assembled on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya extended his greetings to all present and stated that the activities organized under Sewa Sankalp Saptah on the theme “Nation First” symbolizes the collective national consciousness and shared resolve of the people. He observed that love for the motherland must flow naturally from the heart of every citizen, as patriotism is the foundation upon which a strong and united nation is built.
The Governor said that “Nation First” is a guiding principle and a way of life. It calls upon every citizen to rise above personal interests and align their actions with the larger benefits of the country. The sovereignty, independence, and dignity of the nation, he said, can be preserved only when citizens discharge their duties with sincerity and with national interest as their foremost priority.

Referring to the timeless message of duty enshrined in the Bhagavad Gita, the Governor highlighted the importance of selfless action and dedication. He said that when individuals perform their duties without attachment to personal gain, every effort becomes a meaningful contribution to nation-building and collective progress.
The Governor moreover observed that the most powerful embodiment of the spirit of “Nation First” is seen in the commitment of the Armed Forces, the brave personnel of the nation who stand vigilant across challenging terrains from the icy heights of the Himalayas to the vast seas and expansive skies safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring the security of its citizens. For them, he said, protecting the nation is the highest expression of patriotism and sacrifice.

He also referred to the vision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who has consistently underscored that governance must be guided by the principle of “Nation First,” where every policy decision is measured against the yardstick of national interest. The Governor moreover added that if every citizen resolves to dedicate their efforts toward the welfare and advancement of the nation, India’s journey toward development and self-reliance will gain even greater momentum.
Highlighting the achievements of the country, he observed that India is progressing rapidly in areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity, security, and technological advancement. The Armed Forces have, time and again, demonstrated courage and preparedness through decisive operations that reaffirm the nation’s firm commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty while upholding its enduring commitment to peace.

The Governor further stated that the spirit of “Nation First” extends beyond border security and is equally relevant in everyday life. When citizens perform their professional and social responsibilities with honesty, promote harmony and unity, and uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, they actively participate in nation-building. In a country, rich in diversity, unity remains the greatest strength, and identifying oneself as an Indian strengthens the collective national identity.
Calling upon the youth to embrace the spirit of “Nation First,” the Governor urged them to focus not only on career growth but also on character building, discipline, and service to society. While serving in the Armed Forces may be the privilege of a few, respecting and expressing gratitude toward the armed personnel is the duty of every citizen, he exhorted.

He informed that Lok Bhavan has been organizing special programmes across schools, colleges, and other educational institutions under the “Rashtriya Kritagyata Evam Jagrookta” Yojana to connect young minds with the experiences and sacrifices of soldiers. The “Kartavya se Vikas” Yojana is also being undertaken to sensitize youth about their fundamental duties and responsibilities toward the nation.
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Sub Area, Major General A.K. Sharma; along with several other dignitaries were present at the programme.
