D. Litt. Conferred on Mitabhash Creator Dr. Nagen Saikia by Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University

Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- The authorities of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University, located in Nagaon, formally conferred the D.Litt. degree upon noted litterateur, Sahitya Akademi Fellow, and creator of Mitabhash, Professor Dr. Nagen Saikia, at his residence library ‘Barnamala’ in Jeevan Phukan Nagar, Dibrugarh. The formal award ceremony was originally organized by the university authorities on 24 February at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. However, as Dr. Saikia was unable to attend due to physical illness, today (26-02-2026) the Chancellor of the university and office-bearer of the Sangha, Bhavendranath Deka, personally visited with a seven-member delegation and formally presented the honour to the distinguished writer.The Sangha’s General Secretary Kushal Thakuria, the university’s Vice- Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Bora, and Registrar Dr. Sarat Hazarika assisted in the D.Litt. conferment ceremony. Among those present at the event were: President of the Dr. Nagen Saikia Saraswat Nyas Parishad and former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kandarp Kumar Deka; Sahityacharya Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika; Head of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Performing Arts Studies, Professor Dr. Pallavi Deka Buzarbarua; Assistant Professor Dr. Yadav Bora; former Vice-Principal of Kanai College Narendra Mahela; Dipak Gogoi; Nyas Secretary Biren Baruah; Publicity Secretary Ratan Hazarika; Convenor Dr. Mandira Borthakur Saikia; President of the Sangha’s Literary Wing Dr. Mrinal Kumar Baruah; Dibrugarh District Secretary of the Sangha Brajananda Bhuyan; along with many other distinguished individuals, all of whom enhanced the dignity of the programme. The ceremony was conducted by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Sarat Hazarika. On behalf of the Nyas Parishad, President Dr. Kandarp Kumar Deka and Secretary Biren Baruah delivered speeches of gratitude. They also formally presented four volumes of Dr. Nagen Saikia’s collected works to the university, handing them over to Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Bora. Additionally, members of the writer’s family felicitated the Chancellor, Vice- Chancellor, and Registrar with traditional gamocha scarves.In his address, Chancellor Bhavendranath Deka spoke in detail about Dr. Nagen Saikia’s creations, thoughts, and personality.
