Purabi Dairy launches new traditional mithai range on National Milk Day

Assam govt award for 5 Purabi Dairy farmers on National Milk Day

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Marking the celebration of National Milk Day, Northeast India’s largest dairy cooperative, Purabi Dairy, today launched its first range of traditional Indian sweets — Purabi Kalakand and Purabi Milk Cake.

The new range of Purabi Mithai will now be made available at Purabi Parlour Panjabari, all Purabi Milk Booths across Guwahati, and select grocery stores in the city.

Purabi Mithai is manufactured by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and marketed by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture between the Government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

National Milk Day is observed annually on the birth anniversary of Dr Verghese Kurien, widely regarded as the ‘Father of the White Revolution in India’, to celebrate the contribution and growth of the country’s dairy sector.

Speaking on the launch, Shri Satya Brata Bose, Managing Director, NEDFL, said, “This is a momentous occasion for Team Purabi as we expand our product portfolio into traditional sweets. Consumers have long trusted Purabi for quality dairy products, and Purabi Mithai is a natural extension of that trust. We are committed to offering fresh, authentic and hygienically prepared sweets for every household.”

Shri Sameer Kumar Parida, Managing Director, WAMUL, added, “Every new product we launch creates more value for our farmers. With Purabi Mithai, we aim to channel higher milk procurement and ensure better returns for our producer members. This initiative is another step towards strengthening Assam’s dairy ecosystem as envisioned by chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.”

The award-winning farmers were: Majar Ali from Bongaigaon, Mani Bala Das of Hojai, Tajer Rahman of Darrang, Mina Chetry of Nagaon and Som Bahadur Chetry of Hojai.
