Integrated Health Campaign launched in Kamrup (M) district

Rongili Barta- After Nagaon, Tinsukia and Cachar districts, a 40-day Integrated Health Campaign was flagged off in Kamrup Metro district by District Commissioner, Kamrup (M) Shri Sumit Sattawan, IAS, at the premises of the Office of the District Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Guwahati on June 10, 2025.  The objective of this campaign is to reach out to at risk population for screening, testing and linkages to treatment of STI, HIV, TB, Hepatitis B & C through hybrid outreach approach.

Inaugurating the campaign, District Commissioner, Kamrup (M) Shri Sumit Sattawan, IAS, said, “The Integrated Health Campaign in the district will help in not only detecting People Living with HIV (PLHIV) but also putting them into treatment immediately.” He further stated that since the campaign would be conducted through hybrid outreach approach, screening, testing and linkages to treatment would  be done for the people living with HIV, STI, TB and Hepatitis B & C.  “All camps need to be target-based and since the youth are vulnerable to high-risk behaviour like unprotected sex and injecting drugs, the campaign should also cover college going students,” the DC said. He also urged all the stake holders of this campaign to involve themselves in bringing people to the camps. 

Prior to the inauguration of the campaign, Project Director, Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) Dr Indranoshee Das, ACS, in per presentation stressed on achieving the target of 95-95-95 set by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of eliminating AIDS as the public health threat by 2030. The first 95 indicates that 95 per cent of the people who are living with HIV know their status, the second 95 states that 95 per cent of the people who are detected with HIV are put into treatment and the third 95 states that the 95 per cent of the people who are into treatment have a supressed viral load. The Project Director further said that after successfully conducting integrated health campaigns  in HIV vulnerable districts of Nagaon, Tinsukia and Cachar, it was decided to conduct Integrated Health Campaign in Kamrup (M) district which is another HIV vulnerable district of Assam.  

District Development Commissioner Kamrup (M) Parijat Bhuyan, ACS, while speaking during the inaugural meeting, expressed hope that such campaign would help in detecting and eliminating HIV and other related infections like TB, STI etc in the district.  

The 40-day Integrated Health Campaign has a target of covering 40 camps especially in HIV vulnerable unreached pockets within the district. 

It may be mentioned that Integrated Health Campaign was first conducted in Nagaon district in the month of July 2023, followed by the districts of Tinsukia and Cachar during the months of February and March in 2024.
