Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the valedictory function of a seminar titled Codifying Border Laws: Legal Frameworks for National Security and Border Management at Assam Royal Global University in the city today. The seminar, jointly organized by Sreemanta Chetna Manch Purvottar and Adhivakta Parishad Assam Prant, focused on the critical issues pertaining to border security and the legal frameworks necessary for effective border management.
In his address, Governor Shri Acharya remarked that the values of truth and justice resonate with the importance of securing the country’s borders and ensuring the prosperity of the nation.
“The discussions took place in the seminar to contribute to the empowerment of India and will undoubtedly generate new and innovative ideas that will shape our approach to security,” said Shri Acharya. He further highlighted the significance of the seminar, noting that India’s vision of a ‘Developed Bharat’ and the commemoration of 75 years of the Constitution provide an ideal backdrop for discussions on border security.
The Governor reiterated that India’s borders are vital to the nation’s security and sovereignty. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive legal framework to codify border laws, underscoring that the effort to strengthen border management is crucial for safeguarding national interests.
Citing the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Governor Shri Acharya pointed out that India’s border security is not only about physical defense but also addressing the concerns of local communities. He stressed on the importance of the newly introduced laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (Criminal Procedure Code), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (Indian Evidence Act)—which aim to dismantle colonial legacies and set the stage for a self-reliant India.
Shri Acharya also hailed Prime Minister Modi’s focus on the Northeast, recognizing the region’s cultural heritage and elevating its global standing. He cited several transformative initiatives, including the recognition of Charaideo Maidams as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the recognition of Assamese as a Classical Language, and the development of Srimanta Sankardeva’s birthplace into a global tourism hub. These efforts are contributing to a renewed sense of pride and identity for Assam and the Northeast.
The Governor called for greater focus on the Northeast’s border regions, given their strategic importance, as they share borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, and Myanmar. He reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to working closely with the Central Government to strengthen border security and enhance regional stability.
