Guwahati Fitness Festival draws huge participation
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- The first ever Guwahati Fitness Festival was held at the Sonaram Field on January 29, 2023, amidst much fervour and excitement. A first of its kind event that was spread out over a day, the festival incorporated several individual contests and competitions that showcased different aspects of fitness. The title sponsor for the event was PN Nutrition and the associate sponsor was NHPC. The event kicked off at 6.30 am with a 5k Fun Run that showed tremendous response as runners queued up in the early morning darkness to get registered. After the run, the Yoga and Zumba sessions also attracted many. The yoga session was conducted by Triveni Baruah, while the Zumba session was by Zin Deepti and Zin Tapasi.
The 4 th KFA Trophy was the major highlight of the day, and it saw the stiffest of competition among Kettlebell players from all over the North-East. Apart from the winners in the various weight categories, both men and women, the Best Lifter (men’s) and Best Lifter (women’s) awards were presented to Manish Tandon and Manish Nath, respectively. They won a cash prize of Rs. 5000 each, along with trophies and gift hampers. The Deadlift Challenge saw huge participation as men and women registered in droves to test their physical strength in what is arguably the king of all strength exercises. The winners, Himon Sekhar Laskar (men) and Minee Ete (women) took home Rs. 5,000 each as prizemoney Another major draw was the Guwahati Rumble, an obstacle race, with its challenging track of hurdles, Spartan Wall climb, Inclined Balance walk, Tunnel Crawl, etc., which saw participants competing in the junior, veteran and open categories. The winners in the open category were Satyam Saboo (men) and Sonam Zumba (women) who won the prizemoney of Rs. 10,000 each. Earlier in the day, the Fit Kid contest was held among children from the age of 6 to 12 years. The winners in this contest were awarded prizes by the Principal of Down Town School, Guwahati, Mrs. Maya Alfred Fernandes. At the end of the event, chief curator of the festival and General Secretary of the Kettlebell & Fitness Association, Mr. Angshuman Dutta thanked the sponsors and supporters of the event. He said, “The first GFF was a major success and it proved us right that people have realized the importance of fitness in their everyday lives. The tremendous participation in all the varied events was testimony to our belief that fitness is indeed for all — men, women, and children.”
