Third Annual Gandharba Drama Festival

Rongili Barta: The acting and music institution ‘Gandharba’, located in Boripara, Maligaon, will commemorate its twenty-first anniversary with the third annual ‘Gandharba Drama Festival’, a two-day event scheduled for December 5th and 6th, 2025. The festival will be held at the Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Auditorium in Boripara, Maligaon, as announced by the institution’s President, Gautam Kumar, and Secretary, Dhrubajyoti Kumar.

The first theatre night will kick off with the performance of the play ‘Moi Aru Mur Saa’, conceived by Dhrubajyoti Kumar, penned by Binod Sharma, and helmed by Akhilesh Hazari. This production by Gandharba is a tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his centenary, starting at 6:30 PM. Additionally, the second theatre evening, dedicated to the late beloved artist Zubeen Garg, will present ‘Choku’, a play written and directed by playwright Diganta Kakati, produced by Srishti Kala-Krishti Kendra, at 6:00 PM. Following that, ‘A Beautiful Melody’, written by Montu Kumar Das, directed by Ronald Hussain, and produced by Natatirtha, Guwahati, will be showcased at 7:00 PM. On the evening of December 5, 2025, the inaugural night of the ‘Gandharba Drama Festival’ will officially commence with the stage being inaugurated by the distinguished guest, Hrishikesh Goswami, Secretary of the Children’s Literature Trust in Assam. Subsequently, on December 6, 2025, the stage for the theatrical evening of the second night will be inaugurated by noted guest Makbul Haque.

To mark the twenty-first anniversary of Gandharba, the Jivan Silpi Guruji Adya Sarma Memorial Drawing Competition is scheduled for December 6, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM for students in grades one through six. Additionally, the fifteenth annual All Assam Bhupendra Sangeet Competition will take place on December 7, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, and will be divided into two categories: Category ‘A’ for individuals aged under 15 and Category ‘B’ for those aged 15 and above. Submission of age verification documents by participants is mandatory. Instrumentalists will be provided by the organizers of the competition. Participants are expected to maintain decorum in their attire during the competition. The committee’s decision shall be deemed final in all matters. The annual celebration of Gandharba will conclude with a cultural programme following the awards ceremony scheduled for December 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM, where winning participants will receive cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.
