Tezpur University Triumphs at Jal Yatra Business Plan Competition by Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- The Jal Yatra Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society (AIWDS), concluded successfully at the Administrative Staff College in Khanapara, Guwahati. The competition, aimed at fostering innovation for the newly established Assam Inland Waterways Company Limited (AIWCL), brought together over 200 business schools from across India.

In this two-stage competition, the top 10 teams initially presented their visionary business plans virtually on September 10, 2023. The final round featured the top three teams presenting their comprehensive business plans in person.

Tezpur University emerged as the winner, earning INR 1.5 lakhs for their innovative ideas. IIM Rohtak secured second place with a prize of INR 1 lakh, and Team JalMagn, also from IIM Rohtak, took the third position with a reward of INR 75,000. These winning proposals not only impressed with their innovation but also demonstrated their potential to contribute to the growth and sustainability of inland waterways transportation in Assam.

The competition aimed to promote innovation, create industry awareness, facilitate networking, attract investment, and advance inland waterways transportation in Assam. It encouraged creative thinking, innovative solutions, and sustainability practices in business plans, drawing participation from over 200 teams across India.

The Jal Yatra Business Plan Competition signifies a commitment to fostering innovative ideas and strategic thinking that can transform Assam’s inland waterways transportation, driving positive change and economic development in the region.

The Assam Inland Water Development Society, in partnership with the World Bank, congratulates all participants and winners. The Government of Assam, with support from the World Bank, is modernizing inland waterways transport to promote eco-friendly and cost-effective transportation, fostering regional economic development for Assam and neighboring states.
