Sports and Youth Welfare department briefs its activities to the Governor
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, convened a meeting where he took the briefing of the activities of Sports and Youth Welfare department at Raj Bhavan Assam. Sports Minister Nandita Gorlosa attended the session and apprised the Governor of the ongoing initiatives of the Sports and Youth Welfare department. The Additional Secretary to the department, Sarangapani Sharma gave a detailed presentation, providing a comprehensive overview of the department’s activities, as well as the state’s sports infrastructure designed to augment the sporting environment. The Governor expressed his appreciation for impressive sports infrastructure thus created in the state. Referring to the sporting potential among the youth in the state, the Governor emphasized the crucial role of the department in nurturing the talents of emerging athletes. He also underscored the importance of the department of positioning Assam predominantly on the national stage. Governor Shri Kataria also lauded the efforts of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University. He said that the university has the potential for transforming the state into a vibrant sporting epicentre. While the university is still in its nascent stages, he encouraged the department to make it a focal point for sports and an asset in elevating the sporting stature of the State. The Governor also emphasised on the prudent budget utilization. He underscored the importance of developing a maintenance legacy for the sports infrastructure and asked the department to explore revenue-generation opportunities through their infrastructure. Moreover, the Additional Secretary apprised the Governor about the State Level Advisory Committee (SLAC) for Students & Youth Welfare, established to mobilize resources to help youth of Assam realize their potential across various fields. He also highlighted the ongoing “Khel Maharan” event across the state. Governor Kataria expressed his desire to honour and celebrate the hard work and achievements of the state’s sports personalities. He proposed a felicitation ceremony at the Raj Bhavan for medal winners participating in the ongoing National Games in Goa. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Vice Chancellor of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University Prof. J.P Verma along with a number of senior officers.
