SITA sponsored Project on Scientific Goat Farming with GB College, Morigaon inaugurated by Vice-Chairman Narayan Chandra Borkataky
Dispur,Rongili Barta: State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) Vice-Chairman Narayan Chandra Borkataky inaugurated SITA sponsored project “Scientific Goat Farming on March 26, 2025 at an official programme held at Ghanakanta Baruah College, Morigaon in collaboration with Jarabari Agro Producers Co-operative Society Ltd. In the meeting Vice-Chairman Narayan Chandra Borkataky also handed over the first installment of fund for the project to the Principal of GB College, Morigaon Dr. Bishnu Prasad Upadhaya amounting to Rupees Nine lakh Sixty-Three thousand.
The event marked a transformative step towards modernizing the agricultural sector with sustainable and scientifically-backed farming practices. The ceremony began with a formal introduction to the Scientific Goat Farming Initiative, which aims to revolutionize goat farming by implementing advanced technologies and best practices to increase productivity, enhance the quality of livestock, and ensure better economic sustainability for women beneficiaries.
The project aims to empowering individuals with practical skills and provide practical training for empowering skill in goat farming. It also aims in establishing a village level knowledge sharing centre for dissemination of technology and capacity building of women farmers for undertaking goat farming as profitable business enterprise. The scheme is prepared in four clusters each with a unit of 20 women beneficiaries. Each cluster will be provided financial aid prior to which training of the beneficiaries shall be mandated before the commencement of farms.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Vice-Chairman Narayan Chandra Borkataky expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders stressing the importance of scientific farming practices in uplifting local communities and contributing to the nation’s agricultural growth. He emphasized that the project is not only a stepping stone for local economies but also aims to create new opportunities for women employment, particularly in rural areas.
With the commencement of the project and the release of the first installment, it is anticipated that the Scientific Goat Farming initiative will set a new benchmark for goat farming practices in the region, supporting women in increasing their livelihoods while contributing to a more sustainable agricultural future.
In the meeting Co-Vice Chairman Dhruba Prasad Baishya further highlighted that the initiative is designed with a long-term vision to improve the quality of goat farming, ensuring higher returns for goat farmers and fostering the development of rural industries. He also stated that the project will upscale the economy of the state especially in the field of agriculture and hoped that the project which is sponsored by SITA will be successful in enhancing productivity of livestock and poultry and at the same time upgrade the skills of women farming community.
The meeting was attended by the Nodal & Coordinating Officer of the project Dr. Panchi Devi, District Veterinary officer of Morigaon Nilutpal Kakati, State Organising Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Mancha Krishna Bora, beneficiaries from Jarabari Agro Producers Co- operative Society Ltd. and the officials of SITA.
The event also saw a gathering of women beneficiaries, veterinary experts, College teachers and students of the college, all of whom shared a collective enthusiasm for the potential impact of the project.
