Purabi Dairy strengthens milk collection network in Dhemaji with new Bulk Milk Cooler at Kulajan
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: In a major step towards strengthening the cooperative dairy network in Eastern Assam, Purabi Dairy has established a new Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) at Kulajan in Dhemaji district.
The newly installed BMC, with a capacity of 3,000 litres per day, (initially) will directly benefit around 500 dairy farmers from 25 villages spread across Sissiborgaon and Silapathar areas. The initiative has been implemented by the East Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (EAMUL) — a part of the Purabi Dairy network developed to strengthen the cooperative dairy development model of the West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (WAMUL).
The Kulajan BMC was inaugurated on October 24 by Shri Pradan Baruah, Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur, and Shri Bhubon Pegu, MLA, Jonai, in the presence of Shri Rahul Suresh Javir, District Commissioner, Dhemaji, and Shri Hitesh Ch. Ray, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhemaji.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Pritam Kishore Saikia, Managing Director, East Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd., said, “The milk revolution has begun in Eastern Assam (Upper Assam area) since 2023. EAMUL started collecting milk from dairy farmers of Dhemaji District at Bordoloni and Jamuguri areas in March this year. With the starting of new BMC at Kulajan, we can now procure milk from across Sissiborgaon to Silapathar area also. In the coming month, we will commission a 3,000-litre/day capacity BMC at Gogamukh and a 2,000-litre/day BMC at Laimekuri near Jonai. This expanding infrastructure will ensure that farmers across the region have a reliable and remunerative market for their produce.”
Also, the farmers will get several assistances for managing their dairy cattle scientifically, he added.
The event was attended by Ms Jolly Das, Assistant Commissioner; Dr. Girin Saikia, District Veterinary Officer; Tridib Haloi, i/c ADDO; Chayanika Hazarika, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Dhemaji; Shri Narayan Chandra Ghosh, Group Head (Procurement & Input), East Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd.; and several other distinguished dignitaries.
The inauguration of the Kulajan BMC marks a significant milestone in strengthening the dairy cooperative network in Dhemaji district. By enhancing infrastructure and providing reliable chilling facilities, Purabi Dairy aims to ensure improved milk quality, better income for farmers, and long-term sustainability of the dairy value chain in Eastern Assam.
