Patowary to DTOs: Ensure accident-free Bihu in your districts; warns against irregularities

During the VC, Minister Patowary thanked the DTOs for rendering their relentless service on the night of 31 st December 2021 and instructed them for strict enforcement during Uruka and Bhogali Bihu against drunken driving and over- speeding. ‘If you can save lives of people and prevent accidents then it would be a real and meaningful celebration of Bhogali Bihu for you all’, said Patowary. The Minister particularly instructed DTOs of Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji and Tinsukia to visit the accident-prone sites, market places etc. and strictly enforce traffic regulations. The DTOs appraised the Minister about their enforcement plans with coordination from officials of Excise and Police during Bhogali Bihu. Reacting to the recent arrest on corruption charges and subsequent suspension of MVI Nagaon, Transport Minister Patowary directed the DTOs to ensure there is no broker in their offices. He warned them to make their offices corruption-free otherwise they will be personally responsible and stringent action will be taken against them. Principal Secretary Dr Dwivedi asked the DTOs to take strict action against violators of traffic rules. He called upon the DTOs to adopt innovative and creative ideas to generate public awareness on road safety and to expeditiously dispose all pending driving license and fitness certificate matters at the earliest.
