Governor attends a programme organised on “Viksit Bharat and Youth”

Educated, value-driven and socially responsible youth constitute the greatest strength in realizing Viksit Bharat: Governor

 

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya said that Viksit Bharat is a mission given to the youth of the country to realize the inner potential of our great nation. He said that for making India developed by 2047, every student, entrepreneur, innovator, technocrat, professional and public servant should work and contribute.

 

Speaking at a programme organized on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat and Youth’ held at Phanidhar Datta Seminar Hall, in Gauhati University today, Governor Shri Acharya said, “We cannot build Viksit Bharat by slogans. We need to encourage skill-building, entrepreneurship, discipline, digital literacy and civic responsibility”. He therefore, appealed to the educational institutions to incorporate in their curriculum the courses which help the students to nurture 21st century relevant skill sets in them.

 

The Governor on the occasion stressed on the effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, as this policy the Governor said has inherent qualities to transform higher educational institutions into vibrant centres of innovation and research with an emphasis to use the immense potential of the youth. He said that educated, value-driven and socially responsible youth constitute the greatest strength in building a developed India.

 

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, as articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, the Governor stated that the dream of a developed, self-reliant and inclusive India can be realised only through the active participation of youth. He noted that India’s demographic dividend would become a true national asset only when young citizens are skilled, disciplined, sensitive and rooted in values.

 

It may be noted that Lok Bhavan, Assam under the leadership of Governor Shri Acharya launched Seva Sankalp Saptah. On this occasion, Lok Bhavan, in association with the NSS Cell, Gauhati University, as part of Seva Sankalp Saptah organized a programme named ‘Viksit Bharat and Youth’, where in a series of competitions like essay, elocution and poster making held at the university campus. The Governor on the occasion also presented awards to the winners of the competitions. Around 300 students participated in the competitions.

 

Highlighting the spirit of Seva Sankalp Saptah, the Governor said that development and service complement each other. He praised the National Service Scheme (NSS) and its motto, “Not Me, But You,” describing it as a reflection of India’s timeless ethos of public welfare. Through NSS, students engage directly with communities and gain a deeper understanding of nation-building exercises, he added.

 

The Governor described essay writing, elocution and poster-making as powerful instruments for shaping awareness and character. When knowledge, expression and creativity align with national interest, they become forces for meaningful social transformation. He also lauded Gauhati University for its significant contribution to the educational and cultural development of Northeast India and expressed confidence that the university would continue to play a leading role in knowledge creation, research and social responsibility across the North East. He also asked the university fraternity to travel that extra mile to be a responsible contributor to Viksit Bharat movement.

 

Calling upon the students to become pioneers of positive change, champion of environmental protection, ambassadors of social harmony, innovators in science and technology and exemplars of ethical leadership, the Governor urged them to dedicate their knowledge and achievements to national progress and social welfare. The Governor also extended his wishes to all students.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Shri Meenakshi Sundaram, Registrar, Gauhati University, Prof. Utpal Sharma, Prof. Deepak Sharma, Department of Sanskrit, NSS Coordinator, Dr. Ranjan Kakoti, officers of Lok Bhavan; faculty members, NSS volunteers; and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
