Lighting the Legacy: Hindumaizali Village Salutes Assam’s Beloved Zubeen Garg
Hindumaizali, Heramba Nath, Rongili Barta- A solemn public condolence meeting was organised on Saturday evening at the courtyard of Sri Sri Basudev Gosaighar in Hindumaizali, under the Kamalpur constituency of Kamrup district, to pay tribute to Assam’s beloved cultural icon, the late Zubeen Garg. The event was initiated by the Hindumaizali-Malibari Yuva Unnayan Mancha.
Hundreds of villagers from Hindumaizali and Malibari gathered to offer their heartfelt homage, lighting oil lamps in his memory and observing a minute’s silence for the eternal peace of the departed soul. The atmosphere was one of quiet reflection, marked by deep emotion and reverence.
The programme was led by Manash Mani Thakuria, president of the Hindumaizali-Malibari Yuva Unnayan Mancha and a retired Indian Navy officer who is now serving as an officer at Bank of Baroda, a nationalised bank. A long-time mentor to the village youth, Shri Thakuria shared a brief yet poignant reflection on Zubeen Garg’s cultural journey and his invaluable contribution to Assamese society.
The oil-lamp lighting ceremony was formally inaugurated by eminent artist Rukma Ram Nath, who recalled the profound impact of Zubeen Garg’s music and artistic presence on the people of Assam.
The sombre evening at Sri Sri Basudev Gosaighar stood as a testament to the enduring love and respect that people across villages continue to hold for Zubeen Garg, whose music and cultural legacy will inspire generations to come.
