International day Againt Drug Abuse at Dibrugarh DHSK Commerce College
M Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was jointly observed on 26 june at DHSK Commerce College by Socio Educational Welfare Association ( SEWA) , NSS Unit of DHSK Commerce College, Way to Life Rehabilitation Foundation. The program commenced with the inauguration speech delivered by K.M Bhagwati , Principal of DHSK Commerce College. He mentioned about the consequences and ill effects of drug intake. Arfan Hussain, Vice president of SEWA welcomed the gathering. He spoke about the importance of saying no to drugs irrespective of the pressure created among our peer groups .Rajib Baruah,Joint Director of Health and Risheswar Saikia, Deputy Superintendent of Police presided over the function as the special guest. District Aids Control Officer ( DACO), Rabi Baruah also attended the function. He emphasized on the theme Evidence is clear,Invest in Prevention. He stated about the scientific approach towards minimize drug abuse in our society. Chiranjeev Sharma , a recovering addict thanked New Way of Life Foundation for bringing a positive change in his change and performed a song delighting the audience with his melodious voice. Bichitra Hazarika, a recovering addict shared his experience in treatment of almost years. Pranjal Pratim Dutta , Trustee of way to foundation shared the benefits of implementing the holistic approach towards tackling drug abuse. Pinky Poddar, Medical officer of OST(Opioid Substitution Therapy) departments of Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH )also attended the function as special guest. She stressed upon the increasing drug abuse among the youth and how it should be controlled. Intern students of Dhemaji Engineering College and DUIET displayed posters prepared to create awareness among the people.Himangshu Deori , an intern student of DUIET delivered a speech . The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Altaf Hussain, Secretary,SEWA.
