Guwahati,Rongili Barta-  In his maiden visit to the Silchar Medical College Hospital today Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighted the importance of patient-centric approach and encouraged all the doctors to foster empathy and respect for medical care. ‘Good behaviour by doctors with patients is a vital step for proper medical treatment,’ Kataria said. Speaking at a felicitation programme held at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the Governor said the importance of doctors’ behavior in patient treatment cannot be overstated. Kind and compassionate behavior by doctors play a pivotal role in positively influencing patients’ well-being. It is crucial for doctors to acknowledge that their journey into the medical profession is made possible by the contributions of individuals, and as a result, they bear the responsibility of treating patients with the utmost care. The Governor said that the provision of healthcare to the public stands as a profoundly noble service that can be rendered. “I am grateful to witness the resolute commitment and achievements of the doctors in the realm of medical science. May they continue their invaluable journey of saving lives with steadfast dedication and strive for perfection in all their endeavors”, the Governor added. Kataria also appreciated SMCH doctors, para-medical staff, nurses, and cleaning staff for their relentless efforts towards the patients. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for excise, fisheries & transport Parimal Suklabaidya said SMCH serves patients not only from Barak Valley but also from the neighboring states of Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the infrastructure as a whole to meet the burgeoning demands of the patients. Later, the Governor visited the newly constructed Cancer hospital at SMC&H. The program was attended by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Principal SMC&H Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Cachar Rohan Kumar Jha, faculty members and students of the medical college.
