Governor visits Kokrajhar; holds review of development schemes

Advocates for nationwide marketing strategies to increase the outreach of products of BTR

Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria who is on a two day visit to Kokrajhat district, reviewed various development schemes at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat at Kokrajhar. The Governor reviewed the sector-wise physical and financial progress of Central and State Government Flagship Schemes and other initiatives undertaken by the Government of BTR for the welfare of the people of the region. While calling for the faster implementation of the works related to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Governor Kataria appealed to the officials to exercise due diligence and regular monitoring of the progress of the schemes. He advised the Departmental Heads of BTC to ensure equitable development in all the four districts of BTR. The Governor emphasized that the potential of BTR in the Handlooms, Sericulture, Tourism, and Fisheries sector must be utilized to the fullest extent. He also advocated for nationwide marketing strategies to increase the outreach of the products which are unique to the Bodoland Region.While acknowledging the significance of the Green Bodoland Mission launched by the BTR Government recently, the Governor stressed on the need for the plantation of medicinal and economically important plants and trees across BTR. Due to the natural richness of flora and fauna in the Region, he advised the Government of BTR to study the feasibility of Nature and Eco Tourism based infrastructure. The Governor also asked the BTR functionaries to organize block-level consultations with the stakeholders and identify the problems and issues at the ground level for the expeditious implementation of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana Housing Scheme. He also advised the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to strictly enforce the MNREGA scheme for the maximum benefit of the general public. While lauding the efforts of the BTR Administration for making improvements in the Education Sector, he emphasized the introduction of Model Schools in Tea Gardens across the four Districts of BTR. Governor Kataria also appealed to the elected representatives of BTR and officials present in the meeting to discharge their duties in the best interests and spirit of public service. BTR Chief Pramod Boro in his address welcomed the Governor on his maiden visit to BTR and expressed his gratitude for giving his valuable time to review the Development Scenario in BTR. The Speaker of BTC Assembly Katiram Boro, Deputy Chief of BTR Gobinda Chandra Basumatary, Executive Members of BTC, MCLAs, Principal Secretary BTC, and a host of other dignitaries were present in the meeting. The Governor also met a few beneficiaries of Government Schemes and interacted with them after the meeting.
