Governor visits Karbi Aanglong; takes note of government schemes

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, in his visit to Karbi Anglong district held an interaction with the Padma Shri awardees, renowned sportspersons, social activists, and freedom fighters at the Conference Hall of Kajir Ronghangpi Guest House and hailed their role in preserving and promoting Karbi Anglong’s special heritage.
In his interaction, the Governor said, “True development lies not only in infrastructural progress but also in the preservation and promotion of one’s own heritage. When traditions, language, and culture are upheld in synergy with development, real and meaningful progress takes place. Congratulating the personalities on their role and contribution, the Governor said that they represent the strength of the region and contribute significantly to the progress of Assam.
Later, the Governor held a meeting with the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, Executive Members, and key stakeholders of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. He encouraged them to work with dedication for the well-being of the people of the region and stressed the need for collective efforts to address the emerging challenges. “Public welfare and making Assam one of the best States in the country should remain our foremost priority,” he added.
In another meeting, the Governor also took note of the status of various ongoing initiatives of the Central and State Governments in the jurisdiction of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. He emphasized the importance of effective and successful implementation to ensure inclusive development. Stressing on the importance of the local economy, the Governor specifically enquired about the agriculture and fishery sector in the district. He underscored the need for a coordinated and focused approach to make these sectors vibrant and sustainable contributor to both the district’s and state’s economy. The Governor also said that Assam is growing rapidly across all sectors and everybody should contribute wholeheartedly to realize the vision of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat.
Shri Acharya also reviewed the physical and financial progress and status of Amrit Sarovar projects, PM Awas, Pradhan Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana etc. Emphasizing the need for inclusive development, the Governor called for increase in the number of beneficiaries under the National Social Assistance Programme. He also took note of the initiatives under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), and stressed that Self-Help Groups (SHGs) must be empowered through adequate support and facilities.
The Governor further reviewed the status of other flagship schemes including the Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, PM POSHAN (Mid-Day Meal), and Ayushman Bharat PMJAY.
In the context of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Governor Shri Acharya took the detailed updates on the implementation of the Nikshay Mitra initiative. Additionally, the Governor during the meeting hailed the infrastructure development projects under the Public Works Department (PWD), especially road connectivity in Karbi Anglong.
He urged all officials to work with diligence, synergy, and with a sense of service to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach every deserving household at the grassroots level.
