Governor visits Cachar district; takes stock of the development works
Governor visits NIT-Silchar and Assam University, interacts with students
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on his first day visit to Barak valley today reviewed the progress of several central and state government schemes and took stock of the law and order situation in Cachar district. The review took place in presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other senior officials of the district. While chairing the meeting at the DC office conference hall, Governor Kataria said that Assam has witnessed remarkable growth in road and railway infrastructure and that there has been a significant improvement in the law and order system in the past few years. Kataria also said that the state has undergone unprecedented changes in all sectors. There has been remarkable development in physical infrastructure. Referring to the peace process initiated by the government, the Governor said that as a result of these initiatives, peace, prosperity and progress have become the order of the day. Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Rohan Kumar Jha apprised the Governor of the several development works currently underway in the district. He also said that the district administration has been on its toes to extend the fruits of governance to all sections of the people of the district. The Governor during the meeting also took stock of the progress of various schemes including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and others and their performance in Cachar district. Kataria took stock of the performance of all the departments including public health engineering department, water resources, panchayat and rural development, public works and irrigation department among others and assessed the progress of work of various schemes. Later, the Governor visited the National Institute of Technology and Assam University Silchar and addressed the students. The Governor expressed satisfaction over the commitments shown by both the centres of learning in academic and research to academic excellence and research which according to him would put the state in a robust growth trajectory. Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy and Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha accompanied the Governor during his visit to the institutions.
