Good News Assam reflects Assam’s resilience, creativity, and collective progress: Governor

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya released Good News Assam, a special publication by Doordarshan News Assam, at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Guwahati. The publication highlighted the public broadcaster’s commitment to positive storytelling and grassroots achievements.

In his address, Governor Shri Acharya praised the vision that shaped Good News Assam, noting that the publication brings together powerful narratives of human spirit, innovation, social service, and community leadership. He said the initiative beautifully captures the everyday heroes whose contributions, though often unnoticed, strengthen the social fabric and reflect the state’s progress. Describing the book as “a valuable documentation of Assam’s positive transformation,” the Governor said that such stories help future generations recognize how seemingly ordinary individuals accomplish extraordinary feats in diverse fields.

Governor Shri Acharya commended the DD News Assam team for travelling across districts to identify these inspiring personalities and presenting their journeys with sincerity and depth. He highlighted the importance of the books as lifelong guides, noting that this publication stands as a testament not only to the broadcaster’s creativity but also to its responsibility toward society.

Reflecting on the weekly Good News Assam programme, Shri Acharya said that it has made a profound impact by showcasing stories of hope, determination, and achievement. He observed that the programme effectively communicates the on-ground implementation of central and state welfare schemes and highlights improvements in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, digital services, infrastructure, women’s empowerment, and community development. Such development and constructive journalism, he added, reinforce citizens’ faith that development initiatives are translating lives into betterment.

Governor Shri Acharya also referred to the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat, which has given platforms and brought grassroots change-makers into the national spotlight. He said that Good News Assam, like Mann Ki Baat strengthens a participatory approach to development by giving recognition to those whose efforts inspire society.

Speaking about Assam’s immense potential to move forward, the Governor reiterated that Lok Bhawan is committed to nurturing this potential through people-centric initiatives ranging from youth skill development and leadership programmes to environmental protection and the promotion of natural farming. The renaming of Raj Bhawan to Lok Bhawan, he said, is a strong indication that governance is being aimed toward public participation and welfare of the public.

The ceremony was attended by Director General of DD News, Priya Kumar; Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram; Joint Director and Head of DD News Assam, Ankur Lahoty; along with senior officers and other dignitaries.

It may be mentioned that Good News Assam is a weekly programme that has, across more than 50 episodes, documented inspiring stories of service, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. The book features 55 of its most impactful stories, offering a vivid and inspiring snapshot of Assam’s resilience, creativity, and collective progress.
