Governor meets officials of Higher Education dept.
Takes stock of the position regarding NEP implementation
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria chaired a meeting with the officials of the Higher Education dept., in the presence of the Advisor to Chancellor’s secretariat Prof. Mihir Kanti Choudhury to take stock of the implementation of the National Education Policy in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan . In the meeting, he asked the Education Department to ensure that all the institutions of higher education make use of their roadmaps towards effective rolling out of the provisions of the NEP 2020. He also asked the department to sensitize the management and faculty members who are taking the responsibility of the NEP implementation in their respective institutions. Taking note of the Samarth portal, the Governor appreciated the officials of the higher education department stating that the move will augur well towards meeting the objective of education. The Governor suggested that examination results of the examination must be shown in the portal. He also suggested that number of classes taken and attendance of the students should also be reflected on the portal. Considering the low Gross Enrollment Ratio of women, the Governor said that the open university should take the lead in enrolling more women. At the district level, the DC should collaborate with P&RD and SHG to implement result-oriented activities for behavioral change and inspire women to enroll. Governor Kataria also said that the essence of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) has to be compulsorily incorporated during 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters as per the UGC guidelines. Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S.Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary, Higher Education Narayan Konwar, Secretary, Higher Education Banashree Nath, Additional Secretary Chancellors’ Secretariat Kabita Deka, Director, Directorate of Higher Education Dharma Kanta Mili, Director, Directorate of Technical Education Dhrubajyoti Borah, along with officials of Raj Bhavan and Higher education dept. were present in the meeting.
