Governor meets Chancellor’s nominees of Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University and Rabindranath Tagore University
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- With a view to infuse more momentum in higher education, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria chaired a meeting with the chancellor’s nominees of Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University and Rabindranath Tagore University in charge of various authorities of the university like Executive Council, Academic Council and Court members etc at the conference hall in Raj Bhavan . Expressing his vision during the meeting, the Governor said that the chancellor’s nominees should promote and advocate the best practices for the promotion of higher education. They should also inspire, motivate and contribute to bring about qualitative and positive changes in the universities with regard to their curricular and extra-curricular performances. The Governor said that the quality of institutions of higher education to a great extent, depends on the chancellor’s nominees. Therefore, they, should take greater responsibility for bringing in positive vibes in the university for imparting their instructions. They should act as eyes and ears of the Chancellors and guide them with good practices and suggestions. Shri Kataria also maintained that any educational institution is based on the strict rules and the nominees should guide the university community to adhere to rules and regulations. The Governor asked the nominees to ensure that the academics of the University is looked after properly so that the courses, syllabus are properly set for the benefit of the students. The university authorities must also assume the responsibility for an appropriate implementation of NEP 2020 in letter and spirit. He also asked the Court members to look into the various aspects of university functioning including infrastructure development and more importantly, the financial matters. The Governor also suggested the nominees that besides their scheduled meetings, they should make frequent visits to the University and ensure overall development. Shri Kataria said that with NEP 2020 being rolled out, there has been paradigm shift in education landscape. In this changing scenario, the chancellor’s nominees should encourage the faculty members to become change agents for the overall development of higher education in the state. He also asked them to elevate the positions of the respective universities in research and development to enable them to make to the list of top universities. Advisor to the Chancellor’s Secretariat Prof. Mihir K. Chaudhuri, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor S. S. Meenakshi Sundaram and other senior officers of the government were present at the meeting.
