Governor inaugurates TrueBeam Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine and

E-Office Facility at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: In a major boost to cancer care and digital solutions to office management, Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today inaugurated two facilities namely the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (Linac) Radiotherapy Machine and the E-Office Facility at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati, a centre under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

The newly commissioned Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine represents a major advancement in cancer care for the North Eastern Region. This state-of-the-art technology enables highly precise and targeted radiation therapy, thereby improving treatment outcomes while minimizing treatment related side effects.

Simultaneously, the launch of the E-Office Facility is a significant step towards digital management at BBCI. The system will streamline workflow, enhance administrative efficiency, and ensure transparency in service delivery, ultimately benefitting patients and stakeholders alike.

 Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya said, “The installation of the Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine will provide advanced treatment options for cancer patients, while the E-Office system reflects a commitment to efficiency and transparency in healthcare delivery. This is a step forward for the people of Assam and the North Eastern region.”

 

Shri Acharya emphasized the transformational impact of scientific innovation in healthcare and said,  ‘In today’s scientific era, healthcare is no longer limited to medicines and surgery. We are entering into an age of precision medicine, AI-based diagnostics, and personalized therapy. The Advanced Linear Accelerator inaugurated today is a brilliant example of cutting-edge radiation therapy and will bring new hope to cancer patients in the Northeast”.

Shri Acharya further said that he is happy to know that this institute is not limited to medical treatment alone; it also plays a leading role in the fields of research and education. “It reflects  on how the nation is rooted deeply in knowledge, integrity, and service that will form the foundation of a Viksit Bharat by 2047”.

Shri Acharya also acknowledged the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in revolutionizing healthcare across the country. He highlighted key government initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat scheme for  free treatment to the poor and underprivileged.The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which ensures access to affordable and high-quality generic medicines, the National Digital Health Mission for  making healthcare smarter and more accessible, mobile Medical Units, TB Mukt Bharat, and Nasha Mukt Bharat aiming for inclusive, last-mile health coverage and wellness for all.

The inauguration ceremony was attended  by the Vice Chancellor, Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Dr Dhruba Jyoti Borah, Director of BBCI Dr. B.B.Borthakurz Director of Medical Education (DME), Assam Dr. Anup Kumar Barman; Executive Director of AIIMS, Guwahati, Prof. Ashok Puranik, Principal of Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Dr Basanta Kr Baishya along with a host of other dignitaries.
