Governor inaugurates Raas Mahotsav at Palashbari
Reiterates on cultural and spiritual significance of Raas Mahotsav that stands as a shining example of our rich Sanatan heritage
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today inaugurated Palashbari Raas Mahotsav where he joined devotees and local residents in celebrating the rich cultural and spiritual festival.
Addressing the devotees, the Governor expressed his deep joy and reverence being part of the celebration on the sacred land of Palashbari. He described the place as a reflection of Assam’s soul, rich in natural beauty, history, literature, art, and spirituality, all joined together to give rise to Palashbari and its industrious people, whose dedication has preserved the state’s living traditions.

Highlighting the significance of the Raas Mahotsav, Shri Acharya said, “Raas Mahotsav is not only a celebration of devotion to Lord Krishna but also a platform that brings together people from diverse communities, fostering harmony, cultural exchange, and social cohesion. It reinforces our collective identity, strengthens community bonds, and inspires a deep sense of pride in our heritage. This festival, held with great devotion and enthusiasm, stands as a shining example of our rich Sanatan heritage, reflecting the timeless traditions of our creative arts, values etc”.
He also said that the festival embodies the essence of devotion and unity kindled by the great saint Srimanta Sankardev through the Bhakti movement. He noted that through art, music, dance, and theatre, the Raas Mahotsav continues to uphold the values of truth, compassion, and faith.

The Governor on the occasion emphasized that India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity, rooted in timeless values of tolerance, non-violence, and humanity as taught by the Vedas, Upanishads, Gita, and Ramayana. He added that the Raas Leela symbolizes the unity of the soul with divinity, where love and devotion transcend worldly boundaries.
Reflecting on Palashbari Raas’ remarkable journey from a modest beginning to its 79th edition being celebrated this year, Shri Acharya commended the tireless efforts of the organizers, artistes, and citizens of Palashbari in general. The Governor on the occasion noted that India is witnessing a revival of its ancient cultural heritage, with sites like Batadrava Than, Charaideo Maidams etc gaining global recognition. He expressed confidence that such cultural celebrations will continue to inspire younger generations and strengthen India’s spiritual foundation. Shri Acharya extended his heartfelt congratulations to the organizers and prayed to Lord Shri Krishna to guide all on the path of truth, righteousness, and duty.
