Governor convenes a briefing session of Cooperation Department
Governor stresses on genetically high quality breed cows for increasing milk production in Assam
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria convened a meeting where he took a brief on the activities of the Cooperation Department in the presence of Minister Nandita Gorlosa at Raj Bhavan. During the session, the Minister provided an overview of the ongoing schemes and initiatives of the department within the state. He also took note of the activities of the cooperative societies and their role in the state. Principal Secretary of the Department Dr. B Kalyan Chakravarthy, gave an in-depth presentation, shedding light on the projects and accomplishments of the department. Governor Kataria underscored the critical role that cooperatives play in the rural development of Assam. He highlighted the substantial benefits that rural women can reap from the schemes and initiatives of the Cooperative department and the works of cooperative societies. The Governor asked the Cooperation Department to redouble its efforts in reaching out to the rural populace, with a primary aim of bringing about a positive change in the lives of the state’s rural inhabitants. Moreover, Shri Kataria also advocated for a significant investment in capacity-building programs for the cooperative societies and their office bearers and members. The Governor also emphasized that the cooperative sector is central to rural development and asked the universities to introduce courses related to cooperative societies, including financial literacy, at an advanced level. He also stressed on the need of the adoption of genetically improved breeds of cows to boost dairy production which according to him will address the demand supply gap. In addition, he encouraged the development of Gaushalas as commercial dairy farms to address this deficiency. The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Vice Chancellor of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University Prof. J.P Verma along with a host of other dignitaries.
