Governor chairs meeting with Chancellor’s Nominee
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria held two meetings with the Chancellor’s nominees of Assam Women’s University and Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University at Raj Bhavan here , who hold key positions and Court members. The Governor said that Women’s University is the manifestation of the government’s importance to women empowerment through higher education. He, therefore, said that the Chancellor’s nominees in the Executive Council and Academic Council of the university need to take special care to promote the government’s objectives of higher education for women. Highlighting the uniqueness of Assam Women’s University as the sole women’s university in the entire North East, he stressed the need for special attention to ensure its development. During the meetings, the Governor asked members of both the Academic Council and Executive Council as well as the court members to adopt a proactive approach in designing the curriculum aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of scrutinizing the faculty and non-teaching staff selection process for strict adherence to all norms. Governor Shri Kataria directed the nominees to undertake frequent visits to the university to take care of its administration and academic and co-curricular activities. Several crucial issues were raised during the meeting, including application of Information Technology, rigorous incorporation of online/MOOC courses, and the introduction of Physical Education and Home Sciences. In the meeting with the Chancellor’s nominees of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University, Governor Shri Kataria highlighted the role of sports in the overall well-being of humanity, emphasizing its positive impact on steering individuals away from negative habits. He envisioned the university of contributing to the holistic development of the youth population in the North East of India. The nominees for Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University exhibited a keen focus on the university’s well-being, presenting valuable suggestions to enhance its reputation and play a significant role in sports education. Their proposals included the establishment of a multipurpose hall accommodating 18 sports throughout the year, collaboration with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in Assam for developmental activities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and the promotion of traditional sports in the university’s curriculum. Advisor to the Chancellor’s Secretariat Prof. Mihir K. Chaudhuri, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor S. S. Meenakshi Sundaram and other key officials from Raj Bhavan were present at the meeting.
