Governor attends valedictory session of Model United Nations Conference

Model UN conferences to help to develop the spirit of understanding, friendship and camaraderie: Governor

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the valedictory session of the Model United Nations Conference at Cotton University today. The event named “Cotton University Model United Nations,” was  organized jointly by Cotton University Students’ Union and the Intellectual Forum of North East at Cotton University from 25th July to 27th July. The event witnessed more than 200 delegates including delegates from the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Tripura. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the United Nations was formed with the comity of nations has been working for peace, security, protection of human rights, providing humanitarian assistance, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring proper implementation of international law etc. He said, “It is heartening to know that this program is organized under extra-curricular activities, so that the students are given information about the political relations existing among the countries including the mandate associated with  the United Nations to perform. Undoubtedly the programs of this kind develop a deep understanding and the feeling of friendship and camaraderie among the students. These programs also contribute to the refinement of the speech, debate and writing skills increase of the students”. The Governor also lauded cotton university and Intellectual Forum of North East for organizing the conference which serves as a platform where intellectuals from the Northeast come together for nurturing and developing the rich culture and heritage of the region to the global community.  Governor Kataria further said that this initiative will shape the diplomats of the future. ‘We are proud that today’s students are interested in issues happening around the world. Such conferences should be organized regularly to motivate the youth to know about the international and national issues’, the Governor added. Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka , Professor of English Department of Cotton  University Dr.Merry Barua, students along with a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
