Governor attends the third convocation of Rabindranath Tagore university
Calls upon the graduates to place Service to Humanity at the crux of their professional pursuits

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor and Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended the third convocation ceremony of the university at Hojai and called upon the graduating students to place ‘Service to Humanity’ at the core of their professional pursuits.

Addressing the students, Governor Shri Acharya described the convocation a milestone and beginning of a new journey for the graduates. He congratulated the students for their perseverance and academic achievement and acknowledged the vital role played by parents and teachers in shaping their success.
Highlighting India’s rich civilizational ethos, Shri Acharya said that the nation has, for centuries, shared the values of truth, non-violence, compassion, and harmony with the world. He referred to the timeless teachings of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, the spiritual legacy of Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev and cultural legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. Emphasizing the relevance of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy, the Governor said that true education liberates the mind and nurtures humanity. He reminded students that education should not be limited to personal success but serve society, especially the underprivileged. He, therefore, urged the passing outs to accord the highest priority to serve the humanity and consider it the essence of one of their professional commitments.

The Governor praised Rabindranath Tagore University for its steady progress in education, research, and innovation and commended the university administration, faculty, and staff for fostering academic excellence along with moral and social values. Referring to India’s ongoing reforms, Shri Acharya said that the youth are at the heart of this national transformation. Quoting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his emphasis on youth energy, he said that the youth power is the greatest asset of the nation and stressed the importance of skill development and global competitiveness.

The Governor also spoke about reforms under the National Education Policy, the entry of foreign universities into India, and expanding international opportunities for Indian students, which reflect growing global confidence in the country’s education system. Calling for self-confidence and pride in India’s heritage, the Governor said that the responsibility of shaping a self-reliant and developed India lies with today’s youth. He, on the occasion also asked the teaching fraternity of Rabindranath Tagore University to help the students hone their skills and competence especially on the traits of Industry 4.0. He expressed confidence that the teaching rendered by the university and the competence that the graduates inculcated in them over the years, would help them contribute to India’s goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.

Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Manabendra Dutta Chaudhary, former Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Registrar Rabindranath Tagore University Dr. Sandeep Ratna, Controller of Examinations, Deans of the University, members of the University Court, Executive Council, and Academic Council, Faculty members, students and their parents along with a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
